Perfect sound zone tuning in restaurant

Perfekte Klangzonenabstimmung in Restaurant

HDSX creates consistent sound across multiple rooms

A restaurant welcomes its guests. From the moment they step over the threshold, the guest should immerse themselves in the atmosphere of sound, furnishings, colors and smells lovingly created by the host. If everything is perfectly coordinated, the guest feels comfortable, welcomed and relaxed. But how do you create a perfect sound ambience across several rooms?

There were several challenges in this project: In one room, the tables were positioned on two levels. However, the speakers under the ceiling remained at the same height, so that the tables on the gallery were closer to them than those on the lower level. In addition, measurements in this room showed that not all tables on each level were supplied with sound equally. In some places you could hear more of the background music and in others less.

The second room was smaller and a winter garden. All the tables were on the same level, but the speaker system was different to that in the first room, so the frequency distribution was different. In addition, the entire front wall of the winter garden was made of glass, so sound was reflected directly, which led to sound clusters in some parts of the room.

The task: to equip both rooms with consistent and stable background sound and to coordinate them so that the guest experiences a consistent and pleasant sound ambience throughout the entire restaurant. The front room with the two levels was to be the livelier zone and the winter garden the somewhat quieter area. Since the restaurant owner has a preference for reduced and live recorded background music, the volume fluctuations were naturally permanent and in large amplitudes.

First, the HDSX box was integrated between the music player, in this case a CD player, and two amplifiers, each of which controlled the volume of a room. The fully automatic sound stabilization that started immediately meant that for the first time, even sound could be heard in room one, the one with the two levels, so that the listening side could find an ideal volume. By simultaneously closing sound holes between the speakers that were far apart from each other, this one HDSX box achieved the previously non-existent overall sound coverage. All tables were evenly supplied with background music and the HDSX box also automatically compensated for the height differences between the two levels in relation to the ceiling speakers. After a short time, the first room was perfectly adjusted and now the ideal volume was sought for the second room, the conservatory.

It should be more restrained with a smooth transition from one sound zone to the next. Here, too, results were achieved quickly, as the background music sounded absolutely stable in volume through the HDSX box, meaning the optimal volume corridor could be determined. The uniformity of the radiated sound energy took the edge off the glass front in the conservatory and calmed the sound atmosphere in the room as a whole. It goes without saying that here, too, all the tables were supplied with sound evenly.

It was again an exciting experience to have solved so many problems at once with just one HDSX box, simply by plug and play.
